With so many supercars making their world premiere at this year’s Geneva Motor Show, it’s easy to forget about the latest crop of mainstream models like the new Peugeot 2008 small crossover, which follows the French brand’s 208 hatchback.
The 2008 offers Peugeot a challenger in Europe’s increasingly popular B-segment crossover market, where it will go against established models like the Nissan Juke and an assortment of new entries, including the Renault Captur and Ford EcoSport, both of which are also being displayed at the Swiss show.
The five-door model rides on a modified version of the 208 hatchback’s platform, and at 4,160mm long and 1,740mm wide, it’s 200mm longer and 50mm wider than the supermini. It comes equipped with standard 60:40 split rear seats that boost storage volume from 360 to 1,194 litres, of which 22 litres are located under the floor.
Peugeot’s engine offerings for the 2008 include a three-cylinder 1.2-liter petrol unit in 82PS (81hp), 110PS (108hp) and 130PS (128hp) versions, a 1.6-liter VTi petrol with 120PS (118hp), a 1.4-liter diesel rated at 68PS (67hp), and a 1.6-liter diesel available with 92PS (91hp) and 115PS (113hp).
Besides Europe, the 2008 will also be sold in certain Asian markets including China, and South America.
