Saab enthusiasts, this one is for you. Sweden’s KVD Kvarndammen auction house is organizing an online sale of Saab cars that belonged to the now defunct automaker.
In total, 78 cars will be auctioned off, roughly half of which are impossible to register since they were used by Saab as test vehicles. Most of these test cars belong to the latest 9-5 series, but there’s also a 9-3 Aero sedan and five GM-built 9-4X crossovers.
However, there are no less than 24 9-4X models that can be registered in Sweden (or any other country) after paying a 10 percent customs fee, 25 percent of VAT and 3,000 Swedish Crowns (€360) in administrative fees. In Sweden, these taxes will add to the cars’ standard list price of 360,000 SEK (€43,230). Not surprisingly, the highest bid placed so far is only 175,000 SEK (€21,000).
There’s also one 2012 Saab 9-3X (probably the last one they made), which can be bought for 280,000 SEK (€33,620). The highest bid so far sits at 195,000 SEK (€23,400).
There are some rare cars in this lot, like the only Saab 9-5 made that is fitted with a 2.9-liter diesel engine developing 245 horsepower. The list price for this car is 250,000 SEK (€30,000), but the highest bid received so far is only 60,000 SEK (€7,200).
Seven of the 30 9-5 estates built are also up for grabs, plus 37 of the 54 9-5 sedans assembled in 2012. Unfortunately, none of the 9-5 series models can be registered.
All 78 cars will be on show in Gothenburg on March 22 for those who register on KVD’s website beforehand. The auction closes on April 3, so if you’re a Saab enthusiast or a museum with available display space and cash, you need to hurry up. You can check out the entire list of vehicles here.
