You might not agree with Sir Elton John’s (well, he was actually born Reginald Kenneth Dwight, but that’s another story, for another time and place), taste in clothes and glasses, but you have to give him props for his taste in music and surprise, surprise, cars as well.
The British singer, songwriter and occasional actor auctioned off a chunk of his automotive collection back in 2001, including a Ferrari 512TR with only 1,812 miles (2,915 km) on the odometer for £98,000 (equal to US$146,000 or €112,500) at the time.
Twelve years and less than 300 miles on the odo later, the person who bought the 512TR is now putting the Ferrari up for auction at Coys Spring Classics sale in London, next week.
The Rosso Corsa-colored car has covered a mere 2,100 miles (3,378 km) from new, and according to Coys, is reported to be in “pristine condition”. The auction house added that it comes with a complete service history and a letter of ownership authenticity from Sir Elton.
Chris Routledge, the Managing Director of Coys commented: “This must be the lowest mileage 512 TR available on the market today, with exceptional ownership provenance. With Ferrari prices continuing to rise, this car offers the opportunity for a real blue chip investment. Unique.”
The auction house estimates that the price of the 512TR to be £90,000- £110,000 (US$134,000 or €103,000).
