The 2014 Chevrolet SS is a rear-wheel-drive performance sedan that promises to be the car the brand’s fans have long been waiting for. Whether or not it will live up to the hype, remains to be seen. Based on the Holden VF Commodore, the SS brings back to life the rear-wheel-drive V8-powered Chevrolet sedan that was so popular in the United States in the past.

The SS is motivated by a 6.2-liter V8 engine that develops 415 horsepower and 415 lb-ft (562 Nm) of torque. Mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, it helps the SS sprint from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in about 5 seconds.

Performance aside, the SS comes with a comprehensive list of standard equipment, including an ebony leather interior, MyLink infotainment system with navigation, heads-up display and a rear-park assist system, with the latter being exclusively fitted to the SS.

On display at this year’s New York International Auto Show, the 2014 Chevrolet SS received a walkaround presentation by the brand’s marketing manager for performance cars, John Fitzpatrick. Scroll down to see what he had to say about the muscle sedan.
