One of the perks of writing many stories from the automotive world, and especially those about all-new cars, is that you get to see patterns which all manufacturers follow. In recent times, we had autonomous braking and lane departure warning (LDW) systems, which are slowly becoming standard, and now it’s digital gauge clusters.

While covering the NY motor show, it struck me just how many manufacturers have started offering the technology that is no longer limited to high-end cars.

Volvo has now released a video that shows just how its digital gauges work in their clever diesel-electric V60 Plug-In Hybrid. They call it “Adaptive Digital Display”, and as its name suggests, it can be customized depending on mood, or the need to have specific information on-screen all the time. The system debuted on the V40 hatch, but on the hybrid it gains one additional mode, specifically designed for it, which tells the driver if the battery is charging, or if the diesel engine is running. It also displays which of the three driving modes is selected, Pure, Hybrid and Power.

The Swedes also have another older video that goes into some detail about how the system works, and all of its features, while this latest one is more focused on the driving experience and the benefits it provides.
