The Range Rover Evoque Convertible Concept that was displayed at the 2012 Geneva auto show, will reportedly remain a design study. At the time, Land Rover had said it would listen carefully to feedback on the Evoque Convertible, but according to a report from Car&Driver, the automaker has decided not to build it.

Most likely, Land Rover didn’t find a business case for a drop-top Evoque, although it may offer in the future a version with a panoramic roof that actually opens a similar fashion to the Fiat 500C and Citroen DS3 Cabrio.

Maybe it’s for the better, as removing the Evoque’s top takes a lot of the car’s appeal – after all, the sloping roofline is the one of the most important styling elements of the car. The same report says the Evoque won’t get a Victoria Beckham editions of any sort either. The reason for this decision is that Land Rover still has unsold inventory, which is unsurprising given the price tag of the Special Edition.

For those of you who liked the Evoque Convertible, just look at the bright side: at least now, Land Rover will have more resources to develop the new Defender, a car that really represents the brand’s essence.

The new Defender will use a variation of the new lightweight D7 platform launched with the new Range Rover. In fact, every Land Rover except the Evoque and the Freelander/LR2 will be based on the D7 aluminum architecture.
