As if China didn’t have enough brands of its own as well as from Asian and Western carmakers, an increasing number of established companies like Kia are expanding their local portfolios with new names.
At the Auto China 2013 in Shanghai (April 20 to 29), Kia and its local joint venture Dongfeng Yueda Kia (DYK) announced the creation of a new automotive brand named Horki”, which it says, combines two Chinese characters, “Hor” signifying China and “Ki” signifying driving.
The company’s first product is a concept model for a compact sedan aptly named “Horki-1”, which uses the platform and running gear of the new generation Kia Forte (called Cerato in some markets).
While no final decision has been made on the production of the concept car, Kia said that Horki would make its first appearance on the Chinese market in the second half of 2015 with a selection of vehicles produced at one of the joint venture’s three Yancheng factories. The company also plans to include an alternative-fuel powered model in its range.
