Being such a large company, it won’t come to as a surprise that Daimler has several projects running at the same time, some of which are scheduled to be presented within hours of each other.
Right before the world premiere of the new Mercedes-Benz GLA Concept at the Shanghai Auto Show on Saturday, April 20, the German automaker’s truck division will reveal the new generations of its hardy Unimog extreme off-roader series and Econic trucks.
The less fancy presentation will take place at the Mercedes-Benz truck plant in Wörth am Rhein in Germany on Friday.
According to the company, besides the new styling, equipment and other features, one of the highlights for both the Unimog and the Econic trucks is the addition of a new range of BlueTec 6 diesel engines that meet the new Euro VI emissions standard that will come into effect on January 1, 2014.
Mercedes added that the two vehicles have undergone tests under extreme conditions from temperatures of down to minus 30 degrees Celsius (-22 F) in snow that’s meters high and on icy roads, to climbs into the Sierra Nevada up to an altitude of around 2500 meters (8,202 feet) in extreme heat that can rise to over 45 degrees Celsius (113 F) in the shade.
