As is customary in Britain, Mercedes-Benz has released pricing and opened the order books for its updated SLS AMG GT and the new SLS AMG Black Series, just a few months ahead of first deliveries in July 2013.
Already available in other markets, the revised SLS AMG GT is the new base model with on-the-road prices (OTR) starting from £165,030. The GT gains a 20hp power boost over the previous SLS AMG for a total output of 583hp (591PS) and peak torque of 650Nm (479 lb-ft), which is the same as before.
Mercedes quotes a 0-62mph (100km/h) time of 3.7 seconds, before achieving a top speed of 199 mph (320km/h), while the GT is said to return a combined fuel economy of 21.4 mpg UK, with CO2 emissions of 308 g/km.
An optimised AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT seven-speed sports transmission, a redeveloped AMG Ride Control Performance suspension, enhanced standard specification and some light changes to the interior and exterior trim complete the package.
Those looking for a more focused version of the SLS AMG can check out the new Black Series edition inspired by the SLS AMG GT3 racing car. Priced from £229,985 OTR, it gains a more potent iteration of the 6.2-liter V8 engine tweaked to deliver 622hp (631PS), but slightly less peak torque at to 634Nm (468 lb-ft). It’s also 70kg (154 lbs) lighter than the regular SLS AMG at 1,625 kg (3,583 lbs) and can accelerate from zero to 62mph (100km/h) in 3.6 seconds.
Mercedes-Benz engineers upgraded the Black Series model’s aerodynamics, the Ride Control Performance suspension and added different wheels and a ceramic high-performance composite brake system.
