Something tells us that BMW‘s marketing arm will soon shift into hyper-mode to convince us about the merits and the differences of its upcoming 2-Series and 4-Series lineups over the existing 1-Series and 3-Series ranges.

While most statements will hold true in regards of body styles and up to some extent, the exterior design cues, the new even-numbered models have a lot more in common with their odd-numbered siblings than what BMW’s marketing divisions would likely freely admit.

Besides the common underpinnings, tech and equipment features, and engines, they will also share their interiors, as proved by these scoop images of the 2-Series Coupe’s dashboard, which is all but identical to that of the (F20) 1-Series hatchbacks and not too far away aesthetically from the current 1-Series coupe and convertibles.

The instrument panel keeps the two large gauges that incorporate two smaller displays, while there are new and more modern looking controls on the center console, on top of which you will find a big screen for the infotainment and available navigation system.

Both the coupe and soft-top convertible versions of the 2-Series will carry a similar line of engines to the 1-Series, including 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline and diesel units with up to 215-horsepower (though, BMW might use the same 240hp 2.0-liter turbo from the 328i), and the venerable 3.0-liter turbocharged straight six with over 300-horses. An M Performance model is a given, while a more focused and powerful M2 variant could be planned for the near future as well.
