In its latest release, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has shared detailed information on three separate and unrelated recalls from the same number of carmakers.

We’ll begin with Subaru, which is recalling 10,137 Forester SUVs made from January 2013 through March 2013 over an issue with the carpeted floor mats that may curl when exposed to heat. This can be a problem when it occurs with the driver-side floor mat as it can interfere with the “proper operation of one or a combination of, the vehicle’s clutch, brake, and accelerator pedals”. A similar issue had plagued Toyota causing one of the widely publicized sudden acceleration-related recalls.

Subaru told the safety agency that it will replace all four floor mats on the affected cars.

The next recall concerns Nissan and a little over 123,000 examples of its 2013 Altima (made from March 21, 2012, through March 26, 2013), over an issue with the spare tire. In particular, Nissan told the NHTSA that the spare tire in these vehicles “may have been significantly over- or under-inflated”. The Japanese carmaker’s dealers will do what regular owners should do from time to time anyway – “inspect and adjust the spare tire pressure”.

As for the third recall, it affects 43,782 Honda Fit sub-compact models. (manufactured from May 23, 2011, through March 22, 2013) because of a problem related to the Electronic Stability Control software.

According to Honda, “The electronic stability control system of the affected vehicles may allow excessive yaw rates at high steering angles with certain tires. Excessive yaw rates prevent the proper function of the electronic stability control (ESC) system, increasing the risk of a crash.”

Honda said it will update the ESC software free of charge with the recall to begin in the middle of May.
