You may remember some older rumors that suggested that Aston Martin was going to sign a deal to receive engines from AMG, in order to cut spending and become more competitive, but ever since we first heard about it in December of last year, there has been no talk of this anywhere…

Now, though, according to Bloomberg, Aston representatives are in talks with Daimler for initiation of “supply and technical cooperation agreements as the U.K. sports-car maker seeks to reduce spending on developing models.”

The source who brought all of this into the open did suggest that “a final agreement isn’t imminent,” while also mentioning the fact that Aston’s new owners, Investindustrial, were also partaking in the negotiations.

The Gaydon, UK-based manufacturer while still doing very well in terms of its car designs, is behind the curve in terms of technology, especially when it comes to engines, which are rudimentary compared to what their German and Italian competitors are offering. These old-fashioned engines will likely be killed off in a few years by emissions standards anyway – they’ve already started by announcing the death of V12 Vantage, and more will follow.
