Our spies have gone in overboost mode in regards to the new BMW M4 Coupe securing another round of shots of the prototype finished in a Silverstone Metallic color (think ice-blue), while it was being thrashed in its…natural habitat, the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

But that’s not the only news we have on the M4 as this morning, we were notified by the team over at the F80Bimmerpost forums about some fresh information on the car’s powertrain specs.

According to the author, a “high-ranking BMW M official intimately familiar with M3/M4 development” [the M3 is the sedan, the M4 the coupe/convertible series] said the cars’ newly developed 3.0-liter inline-six with multiple turbos (we’ve heard it will have three), will spin up to around 8,000 rpm, which is pretty impressive for a force-fed unit. In comparison, the current 414hp (420PS) naturally-aspirated 4.0-liter V8 has an 8,400 rpm redline.

Talking about power, the new S55-codenamed engine in the next generation M3 and the M4 models is said to deliver around the same output at 416hp (422PS) as the (S65) V8, but according to the source, around 100 lb-ft (135Nm) of torque more reaching 395 lb-ft (535Nm).

The straight-six unit will be paired to a standard manual gearbox or BMW’s optional dual clutch DCT transmission, in both cases driving the rear wheels.
