There are so many classics to choose from when starting a project, which might end up making a much bigger dent in your bank account than you were first anticipating, especially if you live in the US where an abundance of nice old cars are always close by in your area or/and just one click away, on eBay.

Like this 1964 AMC Rambler 550, which less fancy than other cars of its era, but it still has its own adepts, as do all cool rides from ages past.

The seller explains that the 550 saloon had been running well until it was stowed away for one year – during this time the car developed a problem with the fuel pump, but the engine does turn over on its own and starts if gasoline is squirted into the carburetor – always according to the seller.

There are a few other minor jobs to do around the car, however, including tidying up the interior, and possibly doing something about the faded paint, some points of rust and worn tires.

Its engine is a 232 cubic inch / 3.8-liter straight-six, coupled to a three-speed automatic. Power output is not very high, and the self-shifter surely isn’t of the quick variety – it’s slow. Some owners have also reported the six-pot unit drinking excessive amounts of oil – they live with it though, and dismiss it as just a Rambler thing and not caused by any real mechanical fault with the motor.
