There’s nothing terribly wrong with the new Golf GTI Mk7, but there’s something about Volkswagen’s “Design Vision GTI” track racing concept that gets our heart pumping.
It could be the 71mm (2.8 inches) wider, 57mm lower (2.2 inches) and 15mm (0.6 inches) shorter body of VW’s Wörthersee Tour study with the aggressive details that exaggerate the original GTI’s styling cues, or the fact that instead of the regular model’s 217hp (220PS – base) / 227hp (230PS – Performance Edition), it sports a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 with 496hp (503PS) and 560 Nm (413 lb-ft).
Either way, VW tells us that the “Super GTI” also comes with a dual clutch gearbox (DSG) and an all-wheel drive, and is able to go from zero to 100km/h (62mph) in 3.9 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 186 mph (299km/h).
Could we ever see such a model entering production? Hard to say, as VW is keeping its cards close to its chest, but if anything else, we could see some of the elements used in future editions of the Golf.
