The Chrysler 300 SRT8 is a cut-price alternative to the German super saloons. It gets unique styling, a beefy V8 engine, stiffer than normal suspension and big brakes. The result, according to most reviews I’ve seen, is not quite up there with the best of the breed, but it is still comfortable and with its 6.4-liter 470 hp Hemi V8, it’s fast enough and sounds great.
Now, you can experience driving one of these V8 super saloons from the driver’s seat, courtesy of a POV test drive done by Winding Road Magazine. They try out the car on their usual route, and feature mixed driving, in order to see how the car reacts to the different environments.
The driver does slide in some tail-happy action a few times, but the car is quite heavy and is more of a point-and-squirt kind of machine, a task that it does quite well. One thing I did notice in this video, and not in others, were the audible thumps that came into the cabin when going over certain road surfaces. The uneven seams could really be heard inside – the suspension is comfortable and does its job well, but apparently, it doesn’t do it silently. Big rims with low-profile tires certainly don’t help, either…
