We were tipped off this morning by a Carscoops reader about a set of purportedly official images showing the production 2015 BMW M3 sedan from Greek web-magazine Drive. We’ll admit that the pictures did look real at a first glance but there were also a couple of things that were off and made us suspicious.
The first were the similarities of the front-quarter photo with this image of the 3-Series Sedan M Sport right up to the…last numbers of the license plate, and the second, the regular, single slats for the double kidney grilles as opposed to BMW M’s new double slat design, as seen on the refreshed M5 and new M6 models.
Our suspicions turned out to be true as we soon discovered the true source (not mentioned in the Drive piece) of the 2015 M3 images that is none other than UK magazine Autoexpress, which itself has the nasty habit of never being clear about when they show real life and digitally rendered photos…
In the article that is titled “New BMW M3 revealed”, you will find some more ambiguous quotes such as “New lighter, more powerful and faster BMW M3 unveiled ahead of its summer 2014 release date”, but when you click on the gallery, the photos are credited to “Poblete”, the creator of many other photoshops and renderings such as the next Honda Civic Type R. So there you have it.
Thanks to Nick A. for the tip!
