Volkswagen plans to unveil a concept version of the latest Golf GTI on May 8 at the annual tuning festival in Wörthersee, Austria (May 8-11). The carmaker has posted two teaser photos of the car, but as is the customary these days, we can’t see anything beyond the car cover. However, VW has revealed that the show car was entirely developed by 13 of its young apprentices.

They have been working on the GTI for a year now, taking care of all the key elements, from concept and design to interior and engine, mechatronics, painting, technical model – virtually everything was done by VW’s young trainees.

In May 2012, the four women and nine men, selected among VW’s best apprentices, received the mission of building a unique GTI that every Wörthersee visitor would want to drive.

Until the official reveal of the car, we’ll just have to take VW’s word for it, as the only piece of information provided in the press release is that the GTI showcar has a glossy exterior paintwork. VW added that the apprentices had freedom to implement their own ideas and to use various components from VW’s model range.

For everything else, we’ll have to wait until the first day of the GTI Meet at Wörthersee, when the car will have its world premiere along with a number of other cars.
