One thing you should know about GM, is that when it comes to new cars, it loves to spread out information over a period of months even after the presentation, but before launch, to keep the buzz going.
After learning about pricing for both the coupe and convertible versions of the Corvette Stingray in late April, the output numbers of the LT1 V8 in late May, and European MSRPs earlier this week, GM has announced some new performance related numbers.
To be specific, GM said that when equipped with the Z51 Performance Package that’s priced at $2,500 in the States but is standard in European models, the 2014 Corvette goes from 0 to 60 mph (96km/h) in 3.8 seconds, can brake from 60 to 0 (from 96km/h) in 107 feet (32.6 meters), and sustaining 1.03 g in cornering.
We were also told that when equipped with the available Z51 Performance Package and Magnetic Ride Control ($1,795 in the U.S., standard in Europe), the 2014 Corvette laps the Virginia International Raceway’s (VIR) 4.2-mile “Grand Course” in 2:51.78
“The new Stingray constantly communicates feedback to the driver, which makes you feel incredibly confident behind the wheel,” commented Jim Mero, Corvette vehicle dynamics engineer.
“That confidence encourages you to attack each corner because the Stingray drives so well: the tire grip is incredible; the steering response is some of the best I’ve ever experienced; the Magnetic Ride dampers allow little body roll through the corner, while still soaking up the rumble strips when you clip the apex,” he added. “It’s just addictive on the track.”
The new Corvette will go on sale in the U.S. during the third quarter of the year with prices starting at $51,995 for the coupe.
