The automotive world is often a cruel one, and some of the coolest cars never make it into consumers’ hands, because of some technicality, costs or logistics. I was quite sad when Jaguar announced last year that their promising C-X75 hybrid hypercar, which was both reportedly very green and very fast, received the axe, and I feared I would never get to see one of these in action.
Thankfully, while they are not making the intended 250 units, a few pre-production cars have been put together, and UK magazine Autocar has tried one out, consolidating fears that the world really is missing out on a great car. It gets 888 combined horsepower, from its electric motor and petrol engine, which means a sub three-second time to do the benchmark sprint should be easily achievable.
What was most interesting about the C-X75 was its petrol engine, which displaces only 1.6 liters, yet it pushes out a healthy 500-ish hp. This latest test drive reveals that the unit actually sounds good, and with a motorbike-esque soundtrack, a high-revving nature and the extra push of the electric motors, this all-carbon car must really shift…
Scroll down, click play and enjoy the sights and sounds of the C-X75, which also happens to look quite nice, I think, being based on the 1965 one-off called the XJ13. However, that car too had an untimely demise, being another stunning Jag that never made it into series production – perhaps it was a bad omen…
