We’re not saying it’s impossible to be fooled by video shots and renderings, but sometimes it’s not that hard to tell whether a car seen is a coupe or a saloon, which brings us to this cropped photo of the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class’ large display on the center console, courtesy of Autocar.
The British magazine claims that the car you see here is the first camouflage-free photo of the new S-Class Coupe (or perhaps next CL, if AutoMotorundSport’s report is correct). The author states that, “the Mercedes S-class coupé has been revealed in a dashboard graphic captured during the car’s development programme” adding that “the dashboard graphic appears to show a slightly modified front bumper from that fitted to the new S-class saloon.”
Well, we say it’s the sedan. Before we check Mercedes-Benz’s official gallery and videos, it’s pretty clear that the car seen here sports a much taller front end than the S-Class Coupe prototypes seen on the road, but more importantly, the front door is in the middle of the visible B-column and is far too short for a coupe model.
As for the modified bumper, well, it’s available on the new S-Class. If you’re still questioning our thought process, perhaps the following screen shots (after the one from the magazine) from available official videos will put your mind to ease.
Update: Autocar…unceremoniously removed the words and picture regarding the color display “Scoop” of the S-Class Coupe from their article with no explanation whatsoever, a little after we posted our piece. Journalism ethics, anyone?
