Despite the logic not being there for all people to understand when it comes to this matter – myself included, BMW is turning the 3-Series four-door sedan into the two-door 4-Series, and then turning it back into a four-door sedan, all while keeping the “4” designation but adding the “Gran Coupe” moniker after it.

This means that you will be able to buy the traditional Bavarian sedan in three distinct body styles: you have the regular 3-, the 4- Gran Coupe and the 3- GT (which quite a few readers thought was an uncool car), and that’s a lot of choice for BMW buyers… perhaps too much.

Now, courtesy of X-Tomi Design we can show you what this four-door version of the 4-Series looks like. Since the job of adding two doors won’t necessarily bring about any drastic styling changes, this rendering is pretty much what we’re going to get once BMW unveils the model in an official fashion, or like most new models from the automaker (and most others), it will leak onto the web just before its due for unveiling…

Scroll down and tell us if you like this model, and if you would have it over the regular 3-Series, given the price premium it is expected to carry, even over the two-door model upon which it’s based. Sure, it will be prettier to look at, but aside from the sleeker body, you’ll basically be getting the same car with a bit of a wheelbase stretch – we thought the 3 GT already had that niche covered.

A convertible variant was also rendered, and this one looks to be fairly close to what it will actually look like from the factory (sans the soft top as the production car will have a retractable metal roof). Only question is: Will it look better than the outgoing 3-Series two-door? Cast your opinion regarding the coupes here.
