The number of senior drivers with the financial power to buy a car will only go up in the years to come all around the world’s more developed countries, but particularly in the US. It is therefore necessary to engineer and develop these vehicles to appeal to older buyers, which make up a large proportion of the total number of buyers.
In North America, sedans like the Hyundai Azera, Kia Cadenza, Toyota Avalon, Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger and Chevy’s new Impala fall neatly into that category, so Car&Driver magazine has decided to put all of them to the test and determine which one works best for buyers in advanced age…
The video concentrates on the important things like ease of driving, practicality, comfort, fit and finish, design and engines. We won’t spoil the final verdict for you, but let’s just say that if you are a senior looking to purchase a new ride, you will be spoiled for choice when it comes to conventional sedans.
From this pack, the Impala is the most comfortable to ride in, and has what I think is the best-designed interior of the lot. The Avalon is the firmest, lightest and fastest and looks a heck of a lot better than its predecessor, which actually seemed like it had been designed only for older buyers in mind – it also offers wireless phone charging. The Chrysler and Dodge meanwhile are showing their age (particularly in the cabin), and while the two Koreans are competent, they are little more than mediocre, according to C&D.
