Chances of you having seen a real-life Lada on the road in the US are very slim, because they were only brought over as private imports, so they are extremely sparse Stateside.
However, you can own a mint example of a 1980 Lada 2101, which is up for grabs on eBay, and while you won’t enjoy the best of driving dynamics or comfort features, your ride will stand out with its…ahem…Italian styling since it was based on a Fiat.
The seller explains “this particular vehicle was exported to Hungary and the owner took care of this car very meticulously. This is the cleanest you will probably ever find.”
Apparently, it is road-legal and the ad even states it can keep up with highway traffic – we would add a ‘barely’ opposite that and argument with the 1.2-liter displacement of the engine, and the modest horsepower output of 59, which probably drops even lower on skimmed US gasoline, anyway.
However, it is rust-free, good-looking and rear-wheel driven, so depending on who buys it, this has potential to turn into something truly special. It could be converted into a drift car – that would quite be fun to watch in a parking lot. Price is also an issue with this particular car, as it’s currently at $4,250 and the reserve has not been met.
