These are good times for those wealthy enough to purchase a hypercar, and despite many regions of the world battling it out with an acute state of economic uncertainty, the market still offers up a wide selection to choose from.
For the more discerning and restrained older customer, there is the Bugatti Veyron – the classic choice, while for the more flamboyant (Oriental) buyer there is the 100th car Koenigsegg has ever built, the suggestively-named Agera S Hundra. Well, actually not this particular one, because its gold-laden interior is going to be used by a wealthy Malaysian collector who commissioned it for himself.
Now, the crew over at GTBOARD thought that a straight-line battle between these two would be interesting to watch, and thus have created a lengthy video showing them battling it out on an empty runway.
This seems like a very Top Gear-ish thing to do, though once the actual footage begins, there is no sign of Jeremy Clarkson’s clever use of themes, phrases and sexual jokes here, having been replaced with what appears to be a mix of German, Swedish and occasional hints of English. If there’s one piece of advice we can give GTBOARD regarding the popularity of their video, the raising of which is the goal as stated at the beginning, is that they would really boost it if they tried to keep it English only, or another language with subtitles.
Back to the epic battle itself, it definitely didn’t really require complex calculations in order to make an accurate prediction, since the Swedish car was clearly faster on paper. It may make about the same as the Veyron, producing 1016 hp from its force-fed five-liter V8, but since the Franco-German car also has a Golf thrown into the deal, one which it has to carry around all the time, it is considerably heavier. Also, all of the five races they do are from standing starts, so not even the advantage of all-wheel drive is relevant.
Regardless, it is still entertaining to watch, and if they manage to bring in a more skilled presenter/driver for future videos, as well as better camera work and editing, they could be on to something here, especially since it is stated that they have free access to more of these vehicles, which we definitely want to see in balanced drag races against similar machines. Just up the production values!
