Not to be outdone by its chief rivals Ford and General Motors with their F-Series and Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra respectively, the Chrysler Group has revealed its updated 2014MY Ram truck lineup, with the biggest news for the 1500 being the introduction of a diesel engine.
Dubbed the EcoDiesel, it’s the exact same 3.0-liter V6 with 240hp and 420 lb.-ft. of torque connected to an 8-speed automatic transmission that’s found on the latest 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Ram did not release fuel economy numbers, but it did tell us that the 2014 Ram EcoDiesel will cost $2,850 more than a similarly equipped Ram 1500 with a 5.7-liter HEMI V8.
Besides the diesel and the HEMI V8 that makes 395 horsepower and 410 lb.-ft. of torque, the other engine option for the 2014 Ram 1500 is the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with 305 horsepower and 269 lb.-ft. of torque.
Minor updates for the 2014MY include a new front park assist system, a first time offering on a full-size Ram pickup truck, a new air conditioning refrigerant and two fresh exterior shades named Blue Streak and Granite Crystal. Prices for the 2014MY Ram 1500 start at $24,200, plus $1,095 destination, for the Pentastar V6 model.
In the rest of the lineup, the 2014 Ram Heavy Duty and Cab Chassis gain a new 6.4-liter HEMI rated for 410hp at 5,600 rpm and 429 lb.-ft. of torque (582Nm) linked to a six-speed auto. On the Heavy Duty model, it costs $1,495 more than a similarly equipped 383hp 5.7-liter HEMI-powered Ram.
