Renault’s popular Scenic (4.3 million sold in total since 1996 introduction), which has been recently refreshed, has just received its official pricing information for the UK market where it retails from £17,955.
Strangely, the cheapest model in the range is the newly-introduced XMOD, which is perfect for those buyers unsure if they want a crossover or an MPV, because it slots somewhere between the two.
With a revised front-end that reflects the “brand identity,” the new Scenic shows the evolution in Renault’s styling, though it’s far more restrained than cars like the bold Clio. “The famous logo at the front is now bigger and set against a gloss black background that emphasizes the new grille,” says the French automaker in its official press info, and it is a good description of what they’ve done to the front…
The big news comes in the engines department where a new 1.2-liter TCe 130 petrol unit is now on offer, with 130 PS. It replaces the older Nissan-based 1.4-liter TCe, and offers 15 percent better fuel efficiency and they say it’s a “particularly smooth, yet responsive powerplant,” which “combines genuine driving enjoyment and lively performance at all speeds.”
You can also specify a 1.6-liter petrol engine, with 110 PS, but it, along with the 1.5-liter DCi diesel, here with 110 PS also, are the two oldest engines in the range. There’s also a detuned version of the 130 PS petrol motor, called TCe 115, as well as Renault’s latest 1.6-liter DCi diesel, with the same 130 PS output.
Most variants can be had with a stop-start system, and the 1.5-liter diesel gets an optional six-speed dual-clutch gearbox. If you opt for the seven-seater Grand Scenic, with that particular engine/transmission configuration, and in Dynamique TomTom trim, then you’re looking at paying £23,395. For the exact same sum, you can also have the more modern 1.6-liter diesel, but you have to row your own six-speed manual, as the automated EDC transmission is not offered with it.
