This year’s edition of E3 has been peppered with nice little promos, teaser and gameplay videos for various upcoming racing/driving games. Some are more focused on the actual driving part, like Need for Speed: Rivals, while others have a more Hollywood-style approach and lots of action, as is the case with The Crew.
However, my personal favorite and most eagerly-anticipated game is Ubisoft’s Watchdogs. At first, you may dismiss it as a mere Grand Theft Auto (GTA) clone, which in some ways it is. That is a very broad way of putting it, though, and this new game is far more serious in its character than any of the more light-hearted GTA games.
In Watchdogs, you take on the role of a vigilante, looking out for the city of Chicago, which you can drive around in at will, hack ATMs and people’s phones, as well as traffic lights, various types of barriers and even raise bridges. This means that the action in the game should get good variety to the types of situations you will encounter, as you can always diversify the tactics you use and the approach you take to doing a certain task.
We also predict that this game will have some seriously exciting car chases which will be well-worth capturing on video and sharing on YouTube, which is what we hope the developer will do in the meantime, so that we can see more of it, before its predicted release – there are 65 unique cars to discover, which is probably enough to keep things from getting repetitive.
Both the E3 trailer and gameplay videos are well worth watching, even if you don’t like video games at all. If you haven’t kept yourself up to date with the latest advancements in games, and haven’t seen one for a few years, this will impress you, and also make you realize yet again how our excessive dependence on technology may make us virtually all-knowing and all-powerful, but it also allows certain individuals to turn all of it against us.
