It’s funny how certain events have a tendency to follow a particular pattern when they happen. Take US carjackings, for instance. In the slim likelihood that the victim’s car has a gear selector stick and a third pedal, this could fluster the ‘jacker, if his knowledge of driving a car extends to putting it in D – if this occurs, a predictable pattern will become apparent.

This time it happened in Sugar Land, Texas, where an attempted carjacking victim was held up at gunpoint while fishing at 11:15 am on May 26. The suspect, who police described as a 16 to 17 year-old male, was reportedly packing a revolver and asking for the keys to the unnamed victim’s vehicle, and upon discovering it required manual shifting, he demanded to be driven to a nearby location where he got out.

The victim then got to the nearest gas station, where he found a cop and his ordeal was over. For the owner of the unknown vehicle, the manual transmission proved to be by far the best safety feature his ride had, as it basically stopped a man with a gun…
