The 2014 Chevrolet Impala has been awarded the highest possible five-star Overall Vehicle Score for safety by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The Impala has been tested as part of NHTSA’s New Car Assessment Program, with the full-size sedan fitted with a series of standard and available safety features, including radar, that help avoid crashes.
“Safety is a key consideration for all car buyers, and Impala sets a new benchmark for Chevrolet’s flagship sedan,” said Gay Kent, GM general director of Vehicle Safety and Crashworthiness. “The 2014 Chevrolet Impala is designed to provide excellent crash safety, and offers customers several safety technologies not previously available in Chevrolets,” he added.
Among the available safety features for the Impala are a full-speed-range adaptive cruise control, crash imminent braking, forward collision alert, lane departure warning, side blind zone alert, rear cross traffic alert, ultrasonic rear park assist, hill hold/start assist and others.
The Impala’s standard safety equipment includes 10 airbags, StabiliTrak electronic stability control system, all-speed traction control, ABS and electronic brake force distribution.
NHTSA has also noted the presence of OnStar, which uses GPS and cellular phone technology to automatically call for help in the event of a crash.
