Now that we may get an actual working hoverboard, which is on its way to becoming a reality in two years’ time ( or not…) depending on your degree of skepticism regarding the matter, we expect to see more and more of these futuristic pieces of tech taken out of the realm of sci-fi and made real. Like this robotic exoskeleton, made by Japanese company Sagawa Electronics, which is, at heart, also a movie-based idea.
It’s called the Power Jacket MK3, and works exactly like the ones you’ve seen in all of the robot-heavy action flicks, with the movement of the human body controlling the mechanical arms, body and legs in real time – it really is an extension of the wearer’s body, not just a figure of speech in this case.
This means you can walk, run and pick up eggs while you are wearing this suit without a problem, and also, because it is made out of light materials like carbon fiber and aluminum, weight is kept around the 25 kg (55 lbs) mark, therefore not being as big a burden to carry around as it could have been.
The company says it is able to muster the production of up to five such Power Jacket MK3s, which it will sell at around $123,000 a pop.
