Following last year’s reveal of the Continental GT3 Concept Racer at the Paris auto show, Bentley has now presented the final version of the car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The Continental GT3 is powered by a race-tuned version of the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, developing up to 600 hp in unrestricted race configuration. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Xtrac six-speed sequential gearbox with a limited slip differential, mounted as a transaxle for optimised weight distribution. Gear changes are completed via a pneumatic shift system, controlled by paddles mounted to the steering wheel.
Bentley’s racer sports a double wishbone suspension front and rear, fitted with four-way adjustable racing dampers. The steering system features hydraulic power-assistance, while stopping power is ensured by ventilated iron discs and six-piston calipers on the front and four-piston calipers on the rear.
Unlike the road-going Continental GT, the GT3 racer is a light car, weighing in under its target of 1,300 kg (2,866 lbs) – that’s over 1,000 kg (2,204 lbs) less than the production car. This has been made possible thanks to the removal of all interior amenities such as the heavy leather seats, trim, production electrical systems and refinement materials.
On the outside, the Continental GT3 comes with a complete aerodynamic package including a top-mounted carbon fiber rear wing and a carbon fiber splitter. In addition, the bonnet, bumpers, fenders and sills have all been revised to optimise the car’s drag coefficient and to assist with engine cooling.
The Continental GT3 will race in the FIA Blancpain Series from 2014. At the Goodwood Festival of Speed (July 12 – 14), the car will be piloted up the hill twice a day by 2003 Le Mans champion Guy Smith and will also be on display in the F1 paddock. The original Continental GT3 Concept Racer will also be exhibited inside the Bentley stand in the main paddock.
