There is no arguing that Tesla succeeded in making their Model S a sleek and stylish car – a much more successful design than many we’ve seen from other startup manufacturers.

Still, I always thought it would look even better if it were a bit longer, and had slightly more rear overhang. Now, with the possibility of the car going on sale in long-wheelbase-crazy China relatively soon, I did a quick Photoshop edit to see what it may look like, as otherwise it would not necessarily have been a relevant and worthwhile exercise.

The transformation is not drastic, and it’s actually meant to be as subtle as possible, but with the less-pronounced roof arch, differently-shaped rear end with visibly larger boot and a flatter end which also gets a redrawn line, it now looks like a sedan. The larger rear end also gives it a more limousine-like look from the side; with the extended rear door providing the easier access to the roomier rear passenger space – the one on the regular Model S frankly looks a bit small and awkwardly-shaped.

I think that if the China market entry rumors are confirmed, there’s a good chance Tesla will make a long-wheelbase variant of their car, following the rapid-expansion example set by the established premium automakers already thriving in the PRC. If the rumors prove to be false, and they don’t end up selling cars there, or a long-wheelbase model is not made, we will at least have this quick rendering to turn to for reference.
