We’re sure you see it happening all the time these days – toddlers playing the touch the brightest button on their parents and/or relatives’ smartphones and tablets, often deleting and revealing things you would prefer to stay on your device, or even calling people you may or may not know.
One 14-month old girl named Sorella Stoute went one step further when she grabbed her father’s smartphone in her hands and somehow hit the right buttons to complete the purchase of a…1962 Austin-Healey Sprite from eBay Motors!
The story was revealed on ABC News, which contacted the baby’s father, Paul Stoute, of Portland, Oregon, who said he was caught completely off guard when he read the email informing him of his new purchase.
“I actually thought it was a phishing email — one of those where people try to steal your information, that kind of thing,” said the father. “I actually looked it up on eBay just to make sure it was legit and sure enough the little one must’ve bought a car.”
“My initial thoughts were panic,” said Paul Stoute. “I contacted the seller right away to make sure that, if there was any way to be able to get out of it, if he could contact the previous bidder to see if he would [take] it. … And he was O.K. with being able to get out of it.”
Despite the fact that the seller agreed to stop the sale, Stoute decided to keep the classic British sports car that his daughter bought for $225 and give it to Sorella when she turns 16.
“To say it’s a project is by far an understatement for sure,” said Stoute. “My dad builds like historic muscle cars. … I’m gonna pretty much be relying pretty heavily on his expertise. … Sixteen years, or 15 years I guess [from] now, and hopefully it will be ready by that point.”
