There’s a point where form can no longer beat function, and has to accept its practical, sensible ways or risk becoming ridiculous. I’m not saying that the new Lumma Design-tuned BMW X5 F15 is there yet, but it’s definitely close.
Tuned old-gen BMW X5s looked a bit more dignified than this, and sported their mods more subtly, even if said mods happened to be outrageous.
The new model looks a bit bulbous from some angles, with oversized headlights and twin-kidney grille, in my opinion. Now, Lumma adds gaping wide intakes underneath, with their custom front bumper, which continues with visibly flared wheelarches, wider skirts and a new, more aggressive rear bumper design.
The rims they have chosen are pretty big (though not the biggest we’ve seen on a custom SUV like this), measuring 23 inches in diameter, and riding on rubber so thin that you don’t even need to wonder if the ride has been ruined, because it has.
The interior, predictably, was not be left untouched, and Lumma will reupholster it for you any way you like, even if your choice is the not very attractive pink/burgundy and dark grey combination shown in the photos that we have posted after the virtual jump, courtesy of Autoblog-nl. A word of warning, though: if you do plan on reupholstering your dash, or covering it in leather, make sure the top is covered in a dark-colored material; otherwise, it will reflect onto the windscreen, making driving in sunny conditions nearly impossible.
