The recent re-introduction of the Sedona minivan in Kia’s lineup after an absence of a year does not mean that the Korean company has scrapped plans for a modern successor, but only that it will be delayed and we have the photo proof for that in these first scoops of the new model, seen testing at Hyundai’s European technical center in Germany.
In 2011, Kia hinted at a replacement for the Sedona with the KV7 study. Looking at this camouflaged prototype, it’s not hard to see that the Koreans have strayed well away from the concept opting for a more conventional design, even though some details like the styling of the profile window line have made it on the production car. Naturally, the study’s “gullwing” style rear doors have been replaced by sliding units.
Whether the car will keep its Sedona nameplate and offer seven or eight seats in three rows, remains unknown at this time. The same applies for the engine range, though, our spies tell us that this specific prototype came with a sticker that said it was equipped with a 2.2-liter engine paired to an automatic transmission.
