Being a spectator at a rally or hill climb event is not a hard thing to do. As a basic rule, you just have to listen to your survival instincts and everything will be all right. Needless to say, of all the stupid actions a spectator can do, crossing the course or standing on the road at the wrong time is the most dangerous.
That’s exactly what four brainless spectators did during the past weekend at Pikes Peak. They found no better time to cross the road than when Sébastien Loeb was quickly approaching the spot in his monstrous Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak. You don’t even have to be a racing expert to know a car is coming – you just need ears.
The following video below speaks for itself, but I can’t help but wonder what would have happened to the last spectator had Loeb arrived at the scene a second faster…
