While Ford is putting the final touches on the new Mustang and GM is working on the sixth generation Camaro, Detroit’s third muscle car builder, the Chrysler Group, is in the process of mulling the resurrection of Plymouth’s Barracuda nameplate for the replacement of the Dodge Challenger by 2016, possibly even earlier.
If you’re not patient enough to wait for the new ‘Cuda, may we suggest an alternative in the form of the Concept ‘Cuda that made quite a splash at the 2008 SEMA Show as well as on the internet, and which is now listed for sale?
It looks like it was born in Chrysler’s headquarters in Auburn Hills, and to some extent, that holds true as it was handcrafted by the same Gaffoglio Family Metalcrafters in Fountain Valley, California, responsible for building the official 2006 Challenger Concept for Dodge.
The Concept ‘Cuda was based on a new 2007 Dodge Charger SRT8 that was stripped down to the chassis, which was then modified and covered in a custom full-carbon fiber body.
The interior was adjusted to comply with the two-door body, but unfortunately, it kept the Charger’s lackluster cabin and dashboard design and parts, sans some upgrades like the Gaffoglio Family Metalcrafters logo on the steering wheel, which to be honest, looks like a cheap last minute add-on.
Nevertheless, the ‘Cuda is a treat to look at from the outside, and being a showcar, the HEMI V8-powered model has only 57 miles (just under 100km) on the odometer. As far as price is concerned, you’ll have to contact Exoticclassics for a quote, but keep in mind that the last time it changed hands was in 2008 for $159,500.
