For the BMW Group, the Frankfurt Motor Show, also known as the IAA for ‘Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung’ that translates to ‘International Automobile Exhibition’, is not only one of the largest and most important events in the automotive calendar, but also one that takes place in its home country of Germany. Therefore, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that the company has prepared plenty of world premieres.
The highlight of BMW’s presence in Frankfurt will be the introduction of its new i series of eco-friendly cars, including the i3 all-electric supermini that we’ve already seen, plus the production version of the i8 plug-in hybrid sports coupe.
BMW said it will have a special track in the shape of an infinity symbol, on which members of the press and, for the first time, show visitors can take a ride in the i3 as well as other cars making their debut in Frankfurt.
Other models being shown for the first time to the general public include the 4-Series Coupe, the new X5 SUV and the Concept Active Tourer Outdoor. If the rumor about BMW showing an M4 Coupe Concept at this month’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance holds true, then we could see it in Frankfurt as well, even if the Germans did not mention it in their release.
As for the group’s other brands, Rolls Royce will dedicate its stand to bespoke editions of its current range including such as the Rolls-Royce Celestial Phantom and a customized Wraith Coupe.
MINI will not be showing the new hatch, as it will hold off the presentation for the LA Auto Show in November.
