Here’s a nice gesture and a clever marketing move from Skoda’s UK arm which will make use of the 21 foot tall (6.4 meters) ice cream van with 5 foot (1.5 meters) monster truck wheels featured in its new 2013 Octavia vRS television spot to promote the launch of the car by embarking on a national tour offering free ice-cream to children of all ages.
The giant van that weighs in at a hefty 5.5 tonnes and comes complete with four mega speakers made its first appearance at Great Yarmouth today, where local children were treated to huge ice creams.
Skoda said its UK tour will continue over the next month with the huge ice cream van visiting and serving free ice cream at the following locations and dates:
- Bournemouth Air Festival – Thursday 29 August to Sunday 1 September
- Various ‘King of the Mountains’ stages at Tour of Britain. Dates TBC. For more information follow @SkodaUKCycling
- Royal County of Berkshire Show at Newbury – Saturday 21 September and Sunday 22 September
“The Octavia vRS is not your average family car, so we created an ice cream van that is also far from average!” commented Heidi Cartledge, Head of Marketing at Skoda UK. “The giant ice cream van will be touring the UK handing out up to 6,500 servings of free ice cream, offering members of the public a fun sense of what you could experience if you vRS’d your life”.
The new Octavia vRS commercial will air on television this Sunday, August 25, but the Czech carmaker has already released it online – you can watch it here.
