In the automotive industry, there are hardly any cars that are pure in concept, and most blend at least two (though, usually more) distinct styles of vehicles into just one, promising a wide array of varying qualities you didn’t normally get with just one vehicle.
However, some are willing to abandon all convention and make cars that have no history behind them whatsoever, but promise to sell very well in the current climate of the market. And thus, here we have the first photo of the Infiniti Q30 concept.
It’s an overly-dramatized preview of an upcoming compact car which is to be built on the same platform as the Mercedes-Benz A-Class front-wheel drive models, courtesy of a technical partnership Inifiniti has with the Germans, which will also go deeper and possibly involve some engine sharing too.
It promises to be neither a hatchback, nor a crossover. There will, of course, be coupe elements thrown in, because that’s what people want – swoopy shapes and a slightly higher ride, preferably not complimented by grip-adding all-wheel drive.
The arguably quite pretty concept also previews the evolution of the current Infiniti styling language, and “reflects the brand’s vision to deliver new levels of design, materials, fit and finish, craftsmanship and performance.” It’s “the next step in an aggressive strategy to extend the Infiniti brand into new premium segments” and attracting younger buyers.
The debut is scheduled for September 10, at the Frankfurt motor show.
