New Jaguar F-Type Burns and Turns Into a Blob of Molten Aluminum

Reports are just in that a Jaguar F-Type caught fire in Herentals, Belgium, though you would not know just by looking at the pictures, because it is damaged way beyond recognition. Apparently, the owner was driving his recently-purchased new sports car on the highway, when he felt something wrong with the car and reportedly pulled over to see smoke coming out from underneath the bonnet.

The cause of the fire is currently not known, but a specialist from Jaguar will be dispatched from the UK to check it out. What’s interesting is that they used a special foam, instead of water to put out the fire, as most of the F-Type’s structure was made out of lightweight aluminum which melted into a blob. The driver was able to retreat to a safe distance and was uninjured, so that’s good…

However, a spontaneously-combusting new model does not look good in Jaguar’s resume, and they will have to find a satisfactory answer quickly.
