After having spoken with the CEO of Lamborghini, Stephan Winkelmann (who must be said, has the face of an Italian man, despite being from Berlin) in an exclusive interview, Car&Driver is reporting that Audi’s supercar brand is going to chop the top off the Veneno.
It looked crazy enough as it was (though not more so than the Egoista concept), and having a headliner made out of clouds and sky, will make it even more so, though, since they are making more of them, the exclusivity value might just go down a notch.
In fact, they want to triple the production figure of the hardtop model, so with nine drop-tops and three regular models, the total production figure will stabilize at twelve. Pricing is expected to carry a ten percent premium, so the Veneno Roadster, as it will be called, will cost an estimated €3.3 / $4.4 million.
Strangely, the source article mentions the fact that this topless Veneno may never be shown to the public, though, I don’t exactly understand why. Frankly, someone doesn’t buy this kind of car to drive it, as there are other supercars or hypercars which are cheaper and faster and are overall better deals, so since it’s more of a poster-mobile, it really seems nonsensical to keep it hidden.
Besides, it is an Aventador underneath and you can get the Veneno look, even in Roadster form, for a lot less cash – you still gain the same roofless experience, and the same engine and drivetrain, so it’s not a bad idea at all, in my view…
