A nicely sculpted and luxurious German sport sedan with a 577hp (585PS) and 900Nm (663 lb-ft) twin-turbocharged V8, all the latest tech and safety-related goodies that the industry has to offer and more than enough space for four passengers and their luggage; what else could a family man want?
Well, perhaps some additional practicality and certainly a lower price tag because with a starting on-the-road (OTR) price of £119,565 (equal to US$187,800 / €140,700), (unfortunately) the new S63 AMG sports saloon is beyond the reach of most buyers.
Those who can afford it preferring what the brand with the star has to offer over, let’s say, a £140,900 Bentley Flying Spur, will be awarded with a 5.5-liter bi-turbo V8 linked to a 7sp automatic that can accelerate the car to 62 mph (100km/h) in 4.4 seconds, and on to an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph (250km/h). Mercedes states that the S63 AMG returns 27 mpg UK on the combined cycle and emissions of 237 g/km.
Available in the UK only with the long-wheelbase body, the S63 AMG comes fitted with a multitude of comfort, safety and show-off gadgets and systems, ranging from the Magic Body Control to a panoramic sunroof and full LEDs inside and out.
Available options to further empty your wallet include the Drivers Package (£2,760) that derestricts the top speed to 186 mph (299 km/h), Exterior Carbon Package (£5,000) and high-performance ceramic composite brake system (£7,090).
