A report published by CarAdvice says Jaguar will probably not use the underpinnings of the Range Rover Evoque for its crossover model. Furthermore, Jaguar’s product planning manager, Steven De Ploey indirectly confirmed that the brand will sell both the crossover and a 3-Series rival, whereas at first, it was thought that only one was actually going to be turned into a production model.
The piece pegs this Jaguar XQ crossover as a sure thing for the year 2016, despite the fact that we have no official information to confirm it. Moreover, since the brand’s chief designer, Ian Callum, said that “an SUV would be too utilitarian-like” for them, chances are that this crossover could be more akin to a BMW X6 or X4, showing off Jaguar’s interpretation of the idea.
It would be built on the same chassis as the saloon cars, primarily destined for on-road use, whereas the Evoque variant would have given it off-road capability it doesn’t really need.
Lastly, there’s the danger of stepping on the toes of Range Rover and hurting sales from within, while at the same time confusing buyers as to which brand does what.
