Over the past couple of months, Opel and sister-company Vauxhall have presented the refreshed Insignia sedan, liftback and Sports Tourer, while also dropping the all-new crossover-ish Country Tourer into the market.

The only thing left to do to complete the Insignia’s range is the debut of the high-performance versions of the series with the OPC moniker in mainland Europe and VXR in the British Isles. That time is almost here with our spies spotting a very lightly disguised prototype of the Insignia Sports Tourer OPC.

All body styles of the Buick Regal’s European twin will blend the new design elements of the regular Insignia series, including the reworked front and rear lights and trims on the outside, and revised center console and instrument cluster on the inside, into the more aggressive details of the OPC versions.

One thing that remains in question is whether Opel will proceed to any changes to the OPC’s powertrain that currently links a 2.8-liter twin-scroll turbocharged V6 engine with 321hp (325PS) and 435Nm (321 lb-ft) of torque to a six-speed manual gearbox and all-wheel drive.

The new Insignia OPC will be presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month.
