Take-Two Interactive, the company that fully-owns Rockstar Games, the studio behind the Grand Theft Auto franchise in general, and the recently-released fifth installment in particular, has just announced its earnings at the end of the very first day the game was out.

They are reporting to have banked more than $800 / €591 million in total, putting the new game ahead of any other of the company’s previous titles, and the figure does not include two important markets where it has yet to be launched: Japan and Brazil.

In terms of number of copies, it is not known exactly, but it is estimated that somewhere between 13 to 14 million may have been sold to generate this kind of first-day revenue.

The internet is abuzz with rave reviews from all that had a chance to experience the new virtual world of Blaine County, a satirized, fictionalized interpretation of California, though we know better than to merely contend with one, so we looked around…

If you search hard enough, for some less mainstream review sources, I can assure you that they are far more incisive and call out the game’s bad points, because make no mistake, it has its fair share – one less than flattering one is posted below.

From what I’ve seen, the world itself looks great and reports say it’s surprisingly glitch free, given its size and complexity. However, some are calling this game needlessly violent, misogynistic and accuse it of not having as cohesive a narrative as it could, along with criticizing the cast of characters which cannot really garner a true emotional attachment from the player, because, well, they’re all ruthless scumbags, and nowhere near as cool as a vigilante hero.
