There are many ways to get under the skin of your rivals. For auto aficionados, using humorous license plates is one of them, and this picture of a latest generation BMW M5 sedan is pretty much self-explanatory.
As far as history and consumer perception and awareness are concerned, by most accounts, BMW’s popular “M” badge has the edge on the competition. At least for now, because neither its domestic rivals (see Audi’s S and RS divisions and Mercedes-Benz’s AMG arm), nor its foreign adversaries (think Cadillac’s V models) are sitting down with their hands folded, and we’ve all seen how quickly things can change…
And while competitors are improving on all fronts, BMW has made some questionable choices over time, such as the development of increasingly heavier and less entertaining and involving (from a handling perspective) cars.
Time will tell, of course, how the high-performance game in the premium sector plays out, especially now that we have so many challengers.
