We will agree that the styling of the Audi Nanuk Quattro Concept might not be to everyone’s taste, but the idea of a high-riding, mid-engine sports car that can be used all-year round by those who live in snow-belt regions or simply in places with poor road conditions, does sound compelling, doesn’t it?
If you answered yes, and have a healthy bank account, you might want to tell Audi about it as the automaker admitted that it’s considering a production version of the Nanuk Quattro Concept that made its world premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show today.
According to an Autonews report, Audi development chief Ulrich Hackenburg said the company may build the Nanuk Quattro if it finds enough interested and deep pocketed buyers in markets such as the Middle East and Russia (we assume anywhere else in the world too).
“We’re thinking about the Arabian market, but also cold areas. Russia is very interesting. It has to be marketed at customers with the money,” he told the news publication.
Hackenburg added that the Nanuk also makes sense from a financial standpoint as it would be based on a modified version of the mid-engine platform being developed for the next generation Lamborghini Gallardo and Audi R8 as it would increase production and lower costs. “It’s one direction to create volume in a mid-engine sports family,” he said.
The Nanuk Quattro, which is a development of last year’s Lamborghini-themed (but not badged) Parcour Concept from Italdesign that is owned by the VW Group, is inspired by the German company’s involvement in the Paris-to-Dakar endurance rally. “There’s a lot of knowledge coming from the Paris-Dakar car,” said Hackenburg.
While the Audi study utilizes a new 536hp (544PS) V10 turbo-diesel, the production car could be offered with a V10 gasoline from Lamborghini as well.
