In today’s modern world of super luxury auto brands, Bentley is right there at the top together with its British stablemate and previous owner before they both passed into the hands of the German competition, Rolls-Royce.
VW Group-owned Bentley hasn’t quite achieved the success of BMW Group-owned Rolls-Royce, but it’s trying to get there with newer and better vehicles. A report from Autonews outlines the brand’s product plan through 2017.
The first new model that may come out of Bentley’s stable is the Mulsanne Convertible, which has been officially teased via sketches and even shown in prototype form to a select few Bentley owners, but has not yet received the green light. The report says that if company execs give a ‘yes’, then we will see it in 2015.
The next new Bentley has all the ingredients to be the most controversial yet also the most successful car in the company’s history: the production version of the EXP 9 SUV Concept that has been confirmed for a 2016 debut. Like all future models in Bentley range, the unnamed (there are rumors that it may be called the Falcon) SUV will share its underpinnings with other models in the VW Group, including the Audi Q7 and possibly, its Lamborghini equivalent, the Urus.
While Bentley has rolled out redesigned version of the Continental series that includes the GT coupe, GTC convertible and Flying Spur sedan, their replacements are already in the development phase. Autonews says that they will be introduced in 2017 and will switch to a fresh platform sourced from the VW Group and used in the next Audi A8 and Porsche Panamera cars.
